Hypnagogia-Pass: Sleep Videos for a Racing Mind

Doomscrolling: most of us use screens before bed.

In a 2025 poll of 2,007 U.S. adults, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine found that half use a screen in bed every day, and another third do so most days or several days a week. In a study of 122,058 U.S. adults, people who used a phone, tablet or laptop every night in the hour before sleep were more likely to report poor sleep quality than people who did not.

Lab experiments have found that reading on a light-emitting screen before bed can delay falling asleep and suppress melatonin, and that arousing content can make it slightly harder to doze off. A feed is built to keep going, and a game is built to keep you playing.

What can I do instead of doomscrolling?

Something you pick on purpose that asks nothing of you and has nothing to scroll to next. Hypnagogia-Pass is our library of sleep videos made for that, about 80 minutes each. Simply press play, on any device.

If you see your screen time in bed as a habit you would like to change, and you would rather change what is on the screen to something you choose on purpose, Hypnagogia-Pass is built for that. It starts from a simple idea: if the screen is going to be in bed anyway, make it a screen that asks nothing of you and is easy on the eyes. Our relaxing sleep videos sit on a dark screen, with dim, warm-toned words and pictures kept low in brightness so nothing glares. There is no story to follow, no voice to listen to, no ads and nothing to scroll to next.

What a Hypnagogia-Pass session looks like

Hypnagogia is the drifting, half-lit stretch between waking and sleep, and a pass is a way through it. Every session is a sequence of sleep videos built the same way:

  • One word, one picture. A word appears, then a matching picture, one after another on a dark screen, dim and warm-toned so it is gentle on the eyes.

  • Nothing connects. Every word and picture is unrelated to the one before it, so there is no story to build and the mind can keep drifting.

  • A slow breathing rhythm. Each session pairs the sequence with a rhythm of about six breaths a minute.

  • No talking, soft background sound. There is no voice to follow and nothing to answer.

  • No ads. Nothing interrupts the session.

Why you do not have to imagine anything

The technique that inspired us asks you to make the pictures yourself. Luc Beaudoin's serial diverse imagining, often called the cognitive shuffle, has you picture a string of unrelated things, a cow, a ladder, a spoon. Producing pictures takes mental effort, even for people who do it easily, and a mind that is already busy can bend a ladder into a fall.

In Hypnagogia-Pass we supply the pictures. You do not need to imagine, remember or do anything in return. You look, and the next word and picture arrive.

The research that inspired it

Hypnagogia-Pass is our own method, inspired by two lines of published research. Harvey and Payne's 2002 study compared two ways of handling unwanted thoughts before sleep in people with insomnia: distraction with imagery, and general distraction. Beaudoin's serial diverse imagining, presented at the SLEEP meeting in 2016, is the technique of picturing unrelated things one after another.

Your sleep videos questions, answered

What is the best video to fall asleep to?

If you watch something in bed anyway, the best video is one that asks nothing of you: no story, no voice, no ads, nothing bright. Hypnagogia-Pass videos are built that way: words and pictures, dim and warm-toned on a dark screen, paced to about six breaths a minute. Each runs about 80 minutes.

Is falling asleep with the TV on good for you?

Not always; it depends on what is playing. Bright, changing images and arousing content can delay falling asleep, and a TV left on keeps light and sound in the room after you drift off. Hypnagogia-Pass is a calmer alternative: a dark, dim screen with slow words and pictures, no story, no ads.

What can I watch to help me sleep?

Something that asks nothing of you: no plot, no voices, no ads, nothing bright. Hypnagogia-Pass is made for that: one word and one picture at a time, dim and warm-toned on a dark screen. Open members.cantswitchoff.com on your phone, tablet, laptop or TV, pick any of the 30 videos and play it from bed.

How to fall asleep quickly video?

No video can promise it, but a calm one gives sleep room to arrive. Hypnagogia-Pass shows one dim, warm-toned word and picture at a time, with no story to follow and no thought to chase. Start it as you get into bed and let it play.

Is Hypnagogia-Pass a medical treatment?

No. Hypnagogia-Pass is a sleep video method, not a medical treatment, and it has not been tested in a clinical trial.
